Okay, in hopes of reviving an almost dead community, maybe we should have a posting topic. I have a topic to start. :]

What inspired you to start stretching?

I started because I saw someone do a really advanced stretch and I wanted to try, and when I did, I discovered how good it felt. Then I watched Center Stage and I wanted to be able to stretch like they did. I still do actually.

Your turn!

1) Who are you? Still working on that one...
(2) What's your background (i.e. what sport/martial art/dancing/etc do you do?) I danced from 3-16. I trained in ballet and contemporary and then I had a huge break while I was recovering from an ED. I'm now returning to ballet.
(3) How flexible are you? Can you do the splits? More than the average person I guess. I can bend forward (in the toe touching position) and put my palms flat on the floor whilst bending my elbows. I can do the leg-forward splits (but only with my right leg forward) and I can lift my leg quite high off the floor when supported.
(4) How often do you stretch? Hardly ever. I'm trying to get that sorted.
(5) What is your favourite stretching exercise? Anything involving stretching my quads.
(6) What is your stretching goal?  I wanna be able to do this (with more poise obviously):http://web1.hpu.edu/images/StudentLife/Cheer_Team/Cheerleading-pics/Chelsea_front_stretch1_a14361.jpg

Can anyone do that and how did you get there? help please.

Contortion art
This is the first of a four part set of the elements inspired by different styles of dance. This one is Contortion/Hip-Hop representing the element of fire. I used prisma color, marker, and crayon for the different texture, and I assure you this one looks 1,000,000,000 times better than the photo, but the origional is about 2ft by 1 1/2ft, so I can't scan it.

This art belongs to Nny Anderson, and is not to be immitated, stolen, or used without her expressed permission.

Hello! My friends call me Nny, and I currently live in Tempe Arizona. After being reintroduced to my love for Cirque du Soleil by one of my friends I was determined to get as flexible as I had always wanted to be in cheer but couldn't because I built up new muscle faster than I could stretch them out. Now that most of that bulky muscle mass is gone, I want to try it again, only I need a bit of help.

(1) Who are you?
I am Nny, referr to above paragraph.

(2) What's your background (i.e. what sport/martial art/dancing/etc do you do?)
I was in Karate for 7 years, both Freshman and Varsity Cheerleader, and I've taken a semester of Jazz (about to do it again) and a semester of Belly dancing. As far as sports go, I've pretty much done all that are popular in America (hockey, soccer, volleyball, etc.)

(3) How flexible are you? Can you do the splits? Both ways?
These are some progress photos I took of myself to mark how I'm doing so far, but PLEASE be kind, I know it's not very good, but I've only been training for about a month now.

(4) How often do you stretch?
     Usually once every other day.

(5) What is your favourite stretching exercise?
The forearm rest backbend (whatever they're really called, I'm not sure), and handstands into backbends.

(6) What is your stretching goal?
To be good enough to perform in the Arizona Fetish Ball.

(3) How flexible are you? Can you do the splits? Both ways? All three ways
(4) How often do you stretch? Everyday
(5) What is your favourite stretching exercise? When you lie down on your back and pull one leg towards your head and leave the other straight out on the ground
(6) What is your stretching goal? hmmm... I don't know really... I would say.. just gain more flexibility.. as boring as that is. I also want to work on my extensions.. which is more strength, but also flexibility

About me and my stretch class!
(1) Who are you?
(2) What's your background (i.e. what sport/martial art/dancing/etc do you do?)
(3) How flexible are you? Can you do the splits? Both ways?
(4) How often do you stretch?
(5) What is your favourite stretching exercise?
(6) What is your stretching goal?

1) I'm Michael (Sydney/Central Coast/Newcastle in Australia). I'm currently helping dancers and gymnasts to finally achieve perfect flexibility in their splits. For more information, go to:
http://www.piczo.com/stretchclass?g=7419612&cr=2

2) About my background, I'm a former gymnast, and I now teach in the Sydney, Central Coast and Newcastle areas of New South Wales in Australia.

3) How flexible are you? I'm always striving to improve!

4) How often do you stretch? I believe having a day off, is like going backward in fleixbility by a day, so I always recommend dedicating at least 1 to 2 hours (more if I can) per day toward my stretching schedule.

5) What is your favourite stretching exercise? My favourites are frontbending stretches, and the splits and over-splits (always very challenging).

6) What is your stretching goal? To reach my maximum range in every one of the splits. One of my students in the stretch class is very close to her maximum range right now.

Any leg stretches

(6) What is your stretching goal?

I've been noticing a lot of people talking about rehabilitation after things like pregancy and injuries.

I was perfectly physically capable (going to the gym, cartwheels, handsprings, stretching, running, doing flips on the trampoline, etc.) up until June, then got sick and then was in the hospital for forever . . .

I got out September 23rd . . . since then, I have had to relearn to walk and stuff. Kinda crazy-feeling . . . being physically incapable of things. It's so depressing lifting 1 lb. weights in physical therapy and walking uber-slow . . . I tried to take a box off of the top shelf in my closet yesterday and collapsed freak being a weakling. So depressing. Today was the first time I was able to "jump" and get both feet off the ground.

I must take action. I am going to the gym tonight. Any suggestions on getting a totally atrophied body back to normal again? Back into stretching-mode? Things I should avoid?

Problem heel
While we're on the subject of torn muscles ...

A year ago, I managed to pull the muscle on the horn of the heel - not stretching, but, would you believe, picking a sock off the floor! It's never completely healed up. I don't feel it normally now, but I still can't do some kicks with my right leg.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how to encourage it to heal completely?

Okay, this is a question for my dad. He's been having these terrible pains in his inner leg, at the knee. He thinks he's pulled some kind of muscle, but we have no idea what he did or anything. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks so much in advanced!

"You need a door-frame for WHAT?!"
Just a "Heads Up" to everyone: I'm doing a sort of pageant at my college. For my talent portion, I've put together a really nice routine with door-aided contortion/hand-balancing and RG hoops in it. ^_^ I had to make plans today to borrow a door-frame from the drama department so I can do my act outside! *laughs* Thus the title of the entry. *snickers* The pageant is on next Wednesday (the 19th of October), and the male and female winners get to ride on the Homecoming float for North Campus Dorms... aka "El Norte". The theme is "Return to Ancient Greece", so the costumes and all that jazz are going to be really cool! Wish me luck!

I'm going to try and get a video of my performance up onto the Internet once it happens, but I'll need some tech help since I don't know what to do! *laughs* Anyway, I'll keep the group posted on how things go. ^_-
